Description
On that day we first spotted the black leopard as she crossed a wide river, jumping from one stone to another, and we followed her from there.
I managed to capture a unique parallel perspective when she passed by me, with her mesmerizing gaze locked on something ahead. I don’t know what it was, as I was following her through the viewfinder to keep her in the frame and the focus on her eye.
The angle of light falling on her revealed the subtle patterns in her black fur, showing that black leopards are not uniformly black. It also brought out her muscles, her enormous whiskers, and that magical look which gave this photo its title — Obsidian Gaze.
Taken in Kenya.
