Description
The weather that greeted us on our first drive in the Serengeti was terrible, but from a photographic perspective that day turned out to be incredible. This is one of the images I captured that afternoon. That cheetah caught mid-leap looks almost surreal. I actually missed its first jump from the rock on the right, but the second one — from the middle rock to the large boulder — was far more spectacular, as the cheetah had to launch itself much higher into the air to reach the top of a much higher rock. In the full-resolution image, you can even see tiny particles of soil and sand kicked up as the cheetah pushed off into the leap. It’s the kind of photograph that truly comes to life when printed large.
Taken in Tanzania.
