Description
Several lionesses in the pride had cubs of different ages, from tiny newborns to a few months old. When they woke up, the cubs turned the place into chaos — chasing, biting, tumbling, wrestling — a scene that could look charming at first glance but carried a sharp edge of danger. The younger ones could easily be hurt, even killed, if the older cubs weren’t kept in check by their mothers.
The cubs were fearless and stubborn. In this photo, one youngster attacked its mother with teeth and claws, undeterred by the huge difference in size and strength. We also saw a gruesome moment when several cubs turned on a tiny sibling, dragging it and going for its throat — virtually playing it to death, the way grown lionesses kill their prey.
